Sometimes it is more efficient for an individual to use one or both feet to assist with wheelchair propulsion. This is a very common occurrence with the elderly as in many cases, they walked previously and are used to using their feet or they have weak or arthritic arms that are less efficient for propulsion.

Willow is working hard on her hip muscle strength in therapy sessions, at home, and at school, but can find it challenging. In therapy sessions, she works with her physical therapist on activities such as side-stepping in the parallel bars but needs hands-on guidance to achieve the correct movement. Her physical therapist thought using the side-stepping feature of the Leckey MyWay+ would enable Willow to work on her muscle strength independently while being properly supported by the chest harness.

Bariatric clients are those with a high body weight, most of whom will also have a diagnosis of obesity. Since 1998, obesity has been recognised as a chronic disease. (1) This results when the body is consuming less energy than it is taking in, causing an imbalance that leads to an accumulation of excess adipose (fat) tissue. Body mass index (BMI) calculates the relationship between a person's height and weight. It is often used as a starting point to determine whether someone is obese, although it may not be fully accurate.
